Zen in a can

December 14, 2008

I received some tough  news at 5 pm on Friday and allowed it to weigh heavily upon me,  sending me into a deep funk through much of Saturday.   With a couple days perspective,  I remind myself of the housebuilding efforts 2004-2006 in which greater challenges were overcome through negotiation, creativity, help from friends and family, and sheer stubbornness to pursue the dream to fruition, undeterred.   Perhaps humans have to run through emotional cycles before the logical faculties in our brains can resume control?

The glass doors and frame for our fireplace came in this week, and I’m finding the installation is going to require customization.   Let’s just say that if I had it to do over, I see that it would be wise to build the rock aroundthe finished frame rather than just to the rough opening.   That’s ok – it’s what they make diamond saws for.

Good friend Jim called us, and invited us out to dinner – we exchanged holiday gifts and feasted –  morale was improved.

When I returned home and checked the mail I found a timely gift from Santa himself, or at least one of his top elves.   Santa’s helper had been reading this blog, and indeed sent along Zen in a can, complete with business card and note from the North Pole.   Thanks!

sounds like santa had good timing… nice!

hope this week goes better, mark.   times like this can be difficult but they help us appreciate the good.   this past week for me has been a brutal reminder of that.   hang in there!
