Corporate Lifeguarding in the Blogosphere

August 24, 2007

lifeguard.gif  Suppose you were watching for customers “drowning” in a bad experience with your company?  You might throw them a life preserver and try to help pull them to safety, getting their issues resolved, offering them a towel, and wishing them well.

For those involved in monitoring social media – blogs and forums, this is a fair analogy.    How do other customers in the water react upon seeing the lifeguards in action?   Do they suddenly develop leg cramps and begin to wave and shout as well?  Do they begin to ignore the signs “no swimming beyond this point” and “Danger: Strong undercurrents”?

Do swimmers behave differently when the chair is visibly deserted, and the “no lifeguard on duty” signs are up?

Nice analogy. Let the conversations resume!! Social media watching are tricky waters, and I think most the questions you post here are still unanswered. I have some intuitions of my own, which I plan to post shortly.
